FIRST UP, Thanks to all the riders that competed in the Slopestyle and Pipe last week. Conditions, while bluebird and perfect on film- were not the best for hitting kickers, and we would like to thank everyone for being understanding about the Slopestyle course, and hope that everyones knees are feeling good after the sucking up those knuckles! Hope everyone enjoyed the Halfpipe on Saturday, and the Banana Bar!

BIG MOUNTAIN COMPETITION

Tthe 2011 North Face Freeski Open of NZ Big Mountain Competition Qualifiers are scheduled for Wednesday, 14 September at The Remarkables SHADOW BASIN, if the weather plays ball and avalanche danger isn't gnarley.

Registration is 7-9 at LONESTAR Wanaka, upstairs in the Alpine room TUESDAY 13th (the night before). You need to check in to be confirmed for the start list, get your bib and information about the event in case the weather sucks and we change up the schedule. Please try to attend this, if you cannot get there because of huge logistical difficulties, let us know.

For the ladies, The North Face Team rider and New Zealand's top ranked big mountain skier (ranked third in the world), Janina Kuzma, will be back to defend her title. She joins teammate Mitchey Greig and USA's Chantelle Heroux on the invited riders list, both crossing over from skier cross where they are top ranked riders.

On the men's side, invited riders include last year's top three placers, Alex Lynden, B Devine and Fraser McDougall. Also on the invite list are New Zealand's top ranked big mountain skier, Sam Smoothy, Zac Hogg, Charlie Lyons, Cato Laegreid, Jamie Adcock and Sam Lee.

The event is a three star qualifying event for the Freeride World Tour earning top finishers valuable points, not to mention a share of the $5,800 Prize Purse.

FORMAT you ask?

2 Runs, best run counts. This is subject to change if conditions alter the schedule, or there is a substantial injury pause. This means, ski your first run as best you possibly can, because your second may not count or you might not get a second run.
10 men and 3 women will to progress to compete against the eight invited Men and the three invited Women. There will be four wild cards on the table as well to keep the invited riders on edge, so if you get robbed by a finish line edge catch and crash out on the flat, you may get a second chance at glory.

Currently the Finals are looking to be held on Friday the 16th of Sept, at a secret venue- we are going to check the snow pack there, maybe do some heli bombing, and use a venue never competed on hopefully, so fingers crossed!

As always with a big mountain competition, please check emails and updates regularly. The weather changes frequently in NZ, and anything can happen.

Those seeking more information can log on to the official website at www.nzfreeskiopen.com daily or find us on facebook at TNF Freeski Open.

More updates will go out as the weather picture becomes clearer and venues change.
